Joanna's JourneyDance Retreats are about building community through connecting with our hearts, and heart to heart. We support one another, as we are, not as we “wish to be” in a spirit of playful joy and shared release. These retreats offer a vibrant and sacred space for healing. Providing a safe container for release, Joanna and her team support participants in a playful and nurturing way.
JourneyDance is a therapeutic, healing movement form comprised of simple guided movement, full expression and your moving body. It's not about learning steps, but a natural healing form that aids in recovering, uncovering and discovering.
Through free flowing organic movement, ceremonial community building and luscious yoga sessions, these retreats inspire people to feel connected with self, others and the Grand Mother Earth. We get to experience our oneness and interdependence.

You can make arrangements with Wind Spirit for additional nights. I have amazing experience involving personal growth, healing, connection with others. I came here the first time by myself, and by the time I left, I felt like I had 20 best friends. That’s how it felt. Definitely a wonderful sense of community.
~Erin, Mental Health Therapist I was nervous coming on this journey at first, by myself, but from the very first night, Joanna sets up activities that instantly connect you to people. And I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into, and by the end of the weekend, I consider everybody here my family. ~ Jenna, Travel Blogger, Yogini I think that movement and this kind of connection is very important for the human race, right now, because I think we have lost the ability to connect in non verbal ways that connect our hearts and spirits with eachother and I think we are all longing for that, just to feel the move and oneness of being together, one heart, one race. ~Amy, Raw Chef |
Why do we retreat? Let’s get real for a minute and admit that our lives are hard. Daily life comes with its own joys but it can be backbreaking. Even if we lead a life of luxury, everything we gain needs to be earned and maintained. A.J. Reb Materi pointed out that “so many people spend their health gaining wealth, and then have to spend their wealth regaining their health.” If we spend too much time working on gaining things in life, we often forget to step back and enjoy life.
That is why we retreat. We’ve built our lives and endured our struggles and now we need to enjoy who we are, the people we know, the world we live in, and our precious time. During Joanna’s Retreats, everyone is given the space to be fully present in his or her own being. There are community-building events that encourage each person to strengthen both their individual practices and their connections to fellow retreaters. We start on Friday night with some introductory activities to settle us all into the weekend to come. Then after a peaceful night under the luminous stars, we wake up and start moving at our individual paces until we are invited to come together for a morning yoga class. During the day there are more group activities as well as space and time for individual practice and reflection. On Saturday night we treat ourselves to a sauna and a campfire. Then finally on Sunday, we have the JourneyDance, an incomparable experience. All throughout the weekend, there are healthful and delicious meals, time for hiking and swimming and relaxing, as well as an abundance of wonderful people to connect with. Everything is geared toward taking care of ourselves and adding some joy and magic into our lives. Hopefully by the end of it, we’ll have strengthened our tools for bringing some of that joy and magic into our daily lives. Those who have been here before and those who have yet to have the experience, please come and retreat with us. We can’t wait! ~Jazmine Michelle Slavit |
